The Nieuwe Kerk is one of unknown gems of the city of Haarlem. Even few Haarlemmers are aware, that it is not their Grote of St. Bavo Kerk, but their Nieuwe Kerk that earned itself a place in the 24-part series ‘The Great Books of World Art’.
The Nieuwe Kerk is situaded at the Nieuwekerksplein in the Vijfhoek, one of the oldest parts of the City of Haarlem. It was designed and constructed in 1649 in a unique architectural style, reflecting the protestant self-awareness of the era. The Protestant Church uses it as its ‘winter’ church in the centre of Haarlem.
